About us

Plain explanations for the paperwork of later life

Fette Fische Bazar explains Canadian retirement benefits and household money: the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, the Guaranteed Income Supplement, provincial top-ups, tax credits and the family questions that come with them.

Who publishes it

The site is published and paid for by JBV Consultancy OÜ, a business and management consultancy registered in Estonia (registry code 14807025). It is a sponsored site and says so on every page. The company’s full details are in the imprint.

What we are not

We are not a government website and have no connection to the Government of Canada, Service Canada, the Canada Revenue Agency or any province. We do not take applications, charge fees for benefit information, or give personal financial advice. We cannot see anyone’s file.

How we write

  • Official sources first. Figures come from canada.ca, the CRA and provincial government websites, and every article lists its sources with the date they were checked.
  • Amounts with their period. A benefit amount is always given with the quarter or year it applies to.
  • Examples are labelled. Worked examples use hypothetical people and say so. They show how a rule works, not what any reader will receive.
  • The inconvenient detail stays in. Ceilings, deadlines and the conditions that disqualify people are part of the explanation.
  • No invented people. Articles carry an editorial byline, Fette Fische Bazar Editorial, rather than a made-up name.

The sections

  • Pensions: The Canada Pension Plan from the inside: payments, survivors, children, and the paperwork that keeps the money arriving.
  • Benefits: Old Age Security, the Guaranteed Income Supplement, the Allowance and the provincial programs that sit on top of them.
  • Taxes: Credits, slips and the once-a-year conversation with the Canada Revenue Agency.
  • Home & family: Care homes, powers of attorney and the money questions that arrive when a family changes shape.
